Employee Feedback

Collecting information from employees about their experiences with onboarding ensures the process meets the needs of new employees. It also helps to identify and address any gaps in the process to ensure the needs of future staff are addressed.

Employee feedback can be captured formally through a short questionnaire that new workers are asked to complete after working at the company for a brief time (2 to 4 weeks after onboarding). The questionnaire should be kept short (approximately 5 minutes) and be completed anonymously (where possible) to encourage honesty. Sample questions can be found in the template below.

Employee feedback should also be captured through regular, informal check-ins between new workers and their supervisors. These discussions should occur at regular intervals (every 1 to 2 weeks) to assess the employee training needs, team integration, and comfort level with the job. Regular check-ins ensure that new workers have the supports they need to contribute to your company, as well as assess the gaps in the onboarding process.

Where mentors have been assigned to new workers, check-ins should be completed with them to assess the effectiveness of the onboarding process. Mentors can provide information about how well new workers are integrating into your company. They can also identify any gaps in knowledge the new workers had after completing onboarding.
