Disciplinary Measures

Disciplinary measures are intended to be constructive learning opportunities. These measures should be formally established in company policy and consistently applied across employees.

The following factors should be considered when determining if disciplinary measures are needed:

  • Extenuating circumstances (e.g., the level to which the situation is in the employee's control, barriers restricting performance, clarity of expectations, learning and development or training needs)
  • Company policies
  • Nature and severity of the misconduct

Generally, disciplinary measures include the following processes:

  • Verbal warning
  • Written warning
  • Performance Correction Action Plan
  • Suspension, probation, demotion
  • Dismissal

The Disciplinary Measures Guideline can support this process.
