Nutritional Labelling
Nutrient Content Claims The principles of Nutrient Content Claims are that the information should assist the consumer in choosing a (healthy) diet that is consistent with the principles given in Canada's Guidelines to Healthy Eating. The information given must be based on current scientific and health criteria, and is to be sensitive to trade issues. The information presented must be easily understood information on a single nutrient in the food. The level in which the nutrient is claimed must be described accurately, i.e.: "high fibre", "low sodium". There is a compositional criterion that must be followed and will ultimately be a pivotal influence in consumer choice of foods.
